Fire and Ice by Robert Frost

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.
From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.
But if it had to perish twice,
I think I know enough of hate
To say that for destruction ice
Is also great
And would suffice.

Some thoughts…

on a Personal Note: If we haven’t seen its ugly side, we have only flirted with passion, not done the whole tango. Do relationships follow a predictable arc? From attraction to lust to love to adoration/hate to dust? And in which order? Attraction must come first, but then what? Is there a logic to this magic? The intoxication is brief and the hangover is long. Once desire has run its course, something must follow in its wake. Sometimes what follows depends on who we are; and sometimes, what follows makes us what we are. We cannot love and hope to remain unchanged. Perhaps ‘ice’ starts chilling relationships when we resist change in ourselves and force it upon the beloved.

Some say the world will end in fire,
Some say in ice.

In my personal opinion,

From what I’ve tasted of desire
I hold with those who favor fire.

Because love is always stronger. An ice-cube doesn’t stand a chance in fire. Happy Valentine’s Day!
